Bionics’ blood vessel identification system identifies the patterns in blood vessels that are unique to each individual, then uses special image processing for authentication. Specially developed algorithms extract and match unique features, making it possible to uniquely identify people from the blood vessel patterns in a single finger. This technology is at the cutting edge of identification accuracy, extremely close to a hundred percent in correct identification.
The procedure begins with a light source such as an LED shined on the finger to make the blood vessels visible. Then a high-quality infrared CCD camera is used to take an image, from which the blood vessel patterns are extracted. Special image processing is then carried out including the use of a characteristic matching algorithm to authenticate the individual.
